My Huz and I went to San Francisco for a concert recently. Like usual we always take any opportunity to visit the city as a chance to explore some portion of it we haven’t explored before. So this time we parked the car at the concert venue and Uber-ed over to China Town. (Doesn’t that sound hip!?) I have driven through China Town plenty of times. But, we had never taken the opportunity to walk around and explore the shops and people watch before.
A few highlights for me were the street art, the grocers with stores full of unidentifiable food stuffs, the junk shops full of crazy stuff you can’t live without, and the locals gambling publicly in the parks.

I honestly didn’t know what most of the stuff for sale was but it was still interesting to look at

I was just a kid then, but above all the amazing sights and sounds…I tried Chinese food for the first time (I was never afraid to try something at least once) and was blown away by the new tastes and textures. Great times!

Wonderful! Dim sum seems to be the thing to eat now. SF is so wonderful. There is so much to see and do there. I hope you got to see the rest of the city as well.

I lived in Oakland for almost a year and would hop on BART and check out the sights. I rode down the twistiest street, walked Berkeley campus, went out on Alcatraz for a Native American ritual, but didn’t get to ride a trolley as they were down at the time.

Oh definitely yes. It’s wild over there. I haven’t been since I started my blog. I need to do that. Good food in the Indian area nearby.

Looks fun. My hubby used to live in the Bay area (long before moi) and loved visiting Chinatown. One day I’ll convince him to take me to San Francisco 🙂

Oh you should! In fact you need to take your rv to the coast and then take day trips in. It’s so pretty camping on the beach!

Haven’t been there but it was great to read your post. I laughed at the cost of the plastic chopsticks – in SF they are $6.99 – in Beijing (I bought some for friend’s children) they are less than a $1 each…people have to make money somehow!!

Thanks! What about those gamblers, huh? They were serious and there was money exchanging hands! I would recommend other spots in SF first if you only had limited time. but, if you had many days in the city I would definitely check this out.

We have been to SF quite a few times so always fun to see a new area to explore. Not sure I will be ready for the serious gambling though. 🙂

A great post Jenny. Made me remember the first time I went to Frisco, ages ago, and we couldn’t find Chinatown! I think it was smaller then.

Love dim sum. can’t find it here in Mexico. There is a chinese place in Paris behind l’Etoile. Best dim sum in Paris. We go back there every time we stay in Paris. yummy.
