As has been obvious in my recent blogging I visited Ireland this summer with my parents and brother and his family. My husband was unable to join us. He did, however, send me to Ireland with a challenge. We currently have a simple little painting in our kitchen that depicts a cafe scene somewhere in make-believe Italy. He asked me to take a photo of a cafe or restaurant or bar in Ireland that could be put on canvas and replace the generic Italy scene we have now. Tell me your thoughts!? So far he can’t decide. I know which one I like but I am looking for outside opinions…which photo would you like to stare at every morning making coffee or every night cooking up a meal?

It has to be the last one, surely? Course, I might feel differently after a couple of Guinnesses.

Apologies if that wasn’t your favored option, though. I know you had a preference of your own. 🙂

Brightly coloured for me but then I am a colour addict. 🙂

Number 3 for me, it’s got a good mix of colour, interesting composition, the obligatory Guinness sign and the personal touch of your brother’s name.

Uhh, the fifth one? And what’s with all the toucans?

They have always been a Guinness advertisement. Funny eh? Thanks for your opinion!

Second one for sure. Just crop out the sign board bottom left. Those seats by the barrel tables look so inviting. I like the fourth one too but you would need to get rid of the electrical box.

Yes. I have a little work to do on them. Thanks for your opinion!

I agree with Andrew. The second one is definitely a standout.

If I had my way, I would be a bit different and arrange all four photos in one frame! However, if I were forced to choose, it would be the third one. It has all my favourite elements – purple and fuchsia, the signpost, it’s well composed. It will light up my whole morning and the beer advert will let me enjoy many happy hours in the evening. Such a vibrant picture!

That is a good idea and looking at them again I may be inclined to agree with you about picture 3!

I like the middle two. Depending on the colors you use to decorate your kitchen and the rest of nearby rooms would probably dictate which one to choose. Hmm, now I wonder which one is your fav!

Good point on matching nearby colors. I can’t say which one is my favorite yet. I am still curious what everyone thinks. But suffice it to say I like them all or they wouldn’t be here. 😉

Number 3 for me because of the colorful, cheerful flowers, the Guinness sign, and the family name.

The brightly colored bar is my favorite. I love the sign up in corner too. The colors make me feel happy. That is a good thing to wake up to.

It also has to be the last one. I think it is clear and simple but with so much detail. I would surely smile every morning. You should try South Africa as well

I like the second to last one, very vibrantly coloured, and I really like the violet flowers.

Well now that Ireland have qualified for the European Championships in France next year, they’ll be plenty of Irish people drinking in pubs across the country.

I apologize in advance… I pick #4. I realize that this doesn’t make it any easier for you. I would crop the top and bottom creating a more horizontal image matching the mural. Have you seen http://www.fractureme.com. I just saw it last week and was contemplating having some images blown up.

I just checked back and see that no two people agree. You are going to have to post the final photo on the wall.

Brightly coloured bar. But, what colour are your walls? If it clashes I might have to think again.

Walls are tan/beige. Lots of brown in the house. Brown and black granite countertops with black appliances.

Might go for the Silly Happy bar then as a contrast but with a hint of brown at the top of the picture.

Personally I am not sure I would have any on a wall mounted painting/photo, but if i had to choose 1 it would be the last one.

The grey hound in Kinsale looks nice but that’s a lot of beer for breakfast. 😉
I like the Sean Collins bar. What a funny coincidence.
The Guiness Tucan is weird. Like another Crazy Marketing Director decision. After bad market research.
What on earth can a Tucan have to do with Ireland, and beer?
Or are they preparing for Global warming?

Wow. Wow and re-wow. Dorothy Sayers worked at that agency in the 20’s and 30’s? Amazing. Love her books. have you read any? They’re probably more like historical detective novels now. 🙂

I love the first photo and could definitely stare at that early in the morning whilst making breakfast…the rest are lovely but I do prefer the first.

I would like to see the scene of Italy. I think for coffee, Italy is the most suggestive. For a beer or a whiskey, Ireland! As photography, there is no doubt: the number three! 🙂
