Some of you may remember a challenge my husband gave me when I visited Ireland last year. He asked me to take photos of cute cafes to print and put on the wall in our kitchen thereby combining three of my favorite things: food, photography, and travel. Well, the challenge was fun for me so I extended it to Paris thinking I would have no shortage of cafe scenes there. Here are a few unedited photos that have potential. Let me know what you think…
The Suzette needs a bit of cropping but has potential but my favourite is the one with the red edged menu boards!

Yah, I will definitely have to go in and edit whichever one I finally decide on. It’s so much easier to just not make a decision. lol.

I think it depends on the size the picture is going to be, if it is A4 or bigger (not sure what the US equivalent is!) then I would go for the close up with the red edged menu boards. If you were to have a frame with three small photos one on top of the other I think the three pictures you’ve taken from a corner angle (the boulangerie, Camille (?) and the one with the archway to the left) would look great as they are all from a similar perspective and distance.

I like the last one with the green entrance. The many vibrant colours complementing each other will brighten up any kitchen wall.

That’s another great idea for a photography theme.
I’m usually partial to ones that straddle the corner of a building but in this collection the two that have the most potential in my opinion are the Crepe Suzette or Le Petit Châtelet.

Thanks! It’s hard sometimes to get the photos right when they are what they are at the time you saw them. I walked by lots of beautiful cafes that had garbage cans in front of them or cars or were closed or whatnot. Always shaking my fist wishing the light was better or the angle. But, it was a fun little challenge to pay attention to as I was traveling. Thanks for your opinion.

I know what you mean. It drives me nuts when I’m trying to take pictures of lovely doors too 🙂

Alternatively one can spend 40 hours in Lightroom taking those things out but I don’t like to do that. When we do get a good photo it makes it all the more rewarding.

A great selection Jenny. The Hotel dunnord inspired a classical 1938 french movie by Marcel Carne. That is by the canal. I think i know some of the restaurants, le rocher de cancale is in rue montorgueil i think. The one near shakespeare and co is well known too. Again, a very good selection. Great job. ( how are things yóur end?)

Thanks! Things are good over here. Busy at work so I haven’t been able to post. And it’s been hot so I have been hibernating. Looking forward to the weekend though. What exciting French things have you been up to?

Last week was mostly seeing friends and eating too much. 😉 Walking around. Tuileries, the river… And I flew back on Sunday. Waaaaaaaaa!
PS. I read on the news that there are lots of fires again. What a shame.

I wish! But, one has to be reasonable. A month in Paris is never enough but it is a luxury for which I am grateful. There will be plenty of things to do and see next time. How are doing? Enjoying every step? Or getting a bit tired some time?

I am enjoying every step but pretty exhausted for sure tying to keep up with work and everything else. But, all is well and I am healthy and well. Thank you asking.

My pleasure. Pregnancy is such a fascinating process, I mean, your body is “producing” a new human being every second. Think of all the conversion of cells that go on inside. Glad you are doing fine.

Oh wow. Really? It is hard sometimes to imagine other places being cool and wet when it is this hot here. Think of all the water and flooding in the South when it was over 100 degrees here…

Absolutely. Water is so unevenly distributed, it is a shame. 😦

Writing you from campsite in Mendocino.

Sounds nice. You’ve been there before, right? How far from Sacramento? A 2-hour drive?
LikeLiked by 1 person
We go there several times per year. It’s our favorite place. It’s five hours northwest of Sacramento. We also enjoy bodega bay which is closer but harder to find campsites.

It looks very nice. Though 5 hours is like going to Acapulco from mexico city! 🙂 I also imagine your highways are much better. When you say campsites, do you mean tents or cabins? 🙂

Tents. But we have a small 1960s canned ham trailer we use to get out of the weather.

That’s right, you guys are car collectors. I find that fascinating. Have you ever done a post on your cars? I had to look up “canned ham trailer” (what a funny name) it’s what we call a “roulotte” in French. The advantage you have in the US, is having so many camp sites, wonderfully equipped. That is very nice. And I was just thinking of when you will introduce the baby to the joys (and mysteries) of camping and outdoors. 🙂

We certainly hope to take him camping a lot. I hope he likes it as much as we do. I do have some posts on cars. Let me send you some links…

i’m sure he will like it as much. At the beginning, then as all kids, he will start grouching. Do you already know it’s a boy? a little Eric? 🙂

It is a boy. No names yet. 🙂

Names take time. So you will now be facing a possible coalition of two (boys) against one. 🙂 I’m sure you will manage. Be good!

These are all terrific photos of my favorite city in the world and bring back good memories. After all, what is Paris without the cafe?
By the same token, my husband, Parisian, observes ” Where are all the people? What are cafes without the people?”

Well it was a challenge to find cafes without cars parked out front. I do have lots with people but somehow preferred the ones without. Not to mention it was very very cold while I was there which brought people inside. Thanks for the comment!

There are so much unique architecture here, building styles you don’t come across in Canada. I like the ones that are a “V shape” with my favourite is the one with the red awning! 🙂

I like the idea that you hang them in your kitchen, but wouldn’t they make a great calendar–Parisian cafes. Who doesn’t love a good cafe on the sidewalk in Paris? Great shots! Great idea.
