Wide Open Walls hosted multiple events spanning multiple weeks this August in downtown Sacramento painting the city walls with street art! Several areas of downtown have been transformed by local and international artists. Locals watched the art being made, attended a number of hosted street parties, and even download an app for a guided walking tour of the various locations of public art pieces.
I took note of a few of the locations to visit while downtown last weekend and it did not disappoint! I’m proud of my city for allowing something as exciting and forward as this public art exhibit. I am proud Sacramento is finally becoming a world class city by promoting the arts in a modern way. I look forward to next year where they will hopefully do it again in other parts of the city.

Seeing a photo of the Princess on Instagram is what led me to Wide Open Walls. I went downtown looking for her and found all of the rest of this interesting and awesome art.
It’s hard to make garbage cans look good but they managed it!

This is a representation of the famed Sacramento Tower Bridge.
Not sure what this is but I like it. And it was HUGE.
Rainbow version of our beautiful State Flag.
Take note of the ladies posing for selfies. I saw this in front of almost all of the art. People were posing and talking about posting it on social media like it was very serious business.

What a great variety of street art. I think my favourite is the girl with the bears. I love street art but my city (Edinburgh, Scotland) does not have that much and so I always take a lot of photos when I find it on my travels. I’ve got a post planned featuring some I saw in Valencia in August. I think you’ve already seen my post on the street art in Reykjavik but in case anyone else is interested, here is the link 🙂

Awesome, thanks for posting a link and thanks for your comments! I really like the girl with the bear too. It is really well done and did you see how large it is? It is the entire side of that building. It’s pretty amazing when you think about how hard it must have been to paint.

Excellent idea! Thanks for sending the link off. Yes very interesting take on the idea of political street art. I have been there too and really enjoyed it. The peace wall was very moving.

That’s right! I also saw a video of the artist creating the chimpanzee piece. It was awesome to see him work with car parts and garbage cans and then paint over top. It was amazing. And again I am so happy to see the city hosting and encouraging art like this. I knew you would be interested.

Yep. Definitely. I think this is public money well spent which allows otherwise unknown artists to expose to everyone. (And they seem to paint so fast, don’t they?) 🙂

I noticed that too! It’s either a product of them learning on the street and evading the police or just their process. I am not sure I would be able to do it that fast. I would have to sit and ponder and think a bit. I suppose if they were renting a lift for me and the man was standing there ready to take it away I would have to work faster. ha ha.
