Golden Gate Park is full of surprises and pleasant escapes from the rest of the City. It is certainly up for “Best Park in America” if you ask me which no one ever does…
I digress. One of the many treats in Golden Gate Park is the Conservatory of Flowers. It was like a trip back to Victorian times only more humid.
And where better to try out my new iPhone XS? The portrait feature is a lot of fun providing some fake depth of field by blurring out the background of your subject. The phone is particularly better taking photos in high and low light compared to previous versions. (Thank you Apple for finally improving that.) Some of the filters are comically bad from a real photography perspective but they are fun from a, well, fun perspective. Bottom line, the phone takes a much much clearer photo than before which I appreciate considering the obscene price.

Thanks! Yah it’s better. But it doesn’t do great on portrait mode with moving children which is a bummer. I know you can relate. But regardless it is better than the last one which is good.

As they are growing up, keeping kids stand still for the perfect snap is really hard. I found it easier to make short videos of them having fun instead of pictures.

I have been taking videos and then screenshotting a photo of the video when he is moving in super speed. 🙂

Thanks! I took some more today. It still has some disadvantages for sure. The portrait mode is really fun but has some dumb coding which lends itself to missed photos. Oh well.

My nephew Jay joined me on a hundred mile section on my 700 mile hike down the PCT and carried his iPhone (plus a more serious camera) for photography this summer and got some impressive photos. –Curt

Gorgeous photos. We need to spend more time in the park next time we go. Last time rain started to pour so we hurried inside de Young. (Another feast for the eyes)

The zoom is better but still not as good as a real camera. Low light is still a struggle. But they keep getting better and better and more and more expensive.
