It’s not the first time I’ve written about Point Reyes and nor will it be the last. This gorgeous stretch of ocean is magnificent and enjoyable no matter the time of year. The Drake’s Beach Sand Castle competition brought us for this journey and it did not disappoint. People and their abilities and imagination were immensely entertaining. Other times of the year the enormous Elephant Seals are breeding or calving on this very beach so it’s never dull.
*To those that had the foresight to recognize these gorgeous places as National Seashores or Parks you have my gratitude. And to those who continue to fight to keep them in that status you also have my gratitude. I am so lucky to have a place like this to share with my son who thinks it’s just normal to have these treasures.
I stop and take our photo in the tree tunnel every time we visit and hope I continue to have them when my son is bigger than me!
I’m sure you will take those trips even when your son is bigger than you, Jenny. You can be assured your trips will be memories all of his life. I love the tunnel of trees. The big earth mother gave me a chuckle. –Curt

I sure hope so. I know places I traveled as a kid still resonate with me.
Did you two travel much with your kids when they were young?

I came into the family when the kids were teenagers… 🙂 But Peggy’s first husband was military and they traveled extensively. Now-a-days, we try to work in travel with the grandkids. Peggy calls our trips memory-makers. As child growing up in Diamond Springs, we didn’t travel much, but I certainly recall the trips we took to California’s Central Coast to visit our grandparents! They were golden.

We didn’t travel much as kids either. Mostly to Lake Tahoe few times per year, etc. Family in AZ. That sort of things. I didn’t take a plane right until I was 18.

I think the first time I made it to Lake Tahoe was when I was in the seventh grade on a week-long camping trip. It was to Camp Noel Porter, an Episcopal camp near Tahoe City. I paid $5 for a helicopter ride at the El Dorado County Fair for my first flight. Grin. After that, my first trip was flying out of SF to New York and on to Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer!

$5! Wouldn’t even cover gas in a helicopter now.
Peace corp. you’ve written a lot about that if I remember right.

Have you been back to Diamond lately? It’s getting more populated.

It certainly is. Sigh. But I still enjoy driving past our old house and having breakfast at the Diamond Hotel. I still have a friend that lives up there, Jenny, and usually work in a visit when I am in Sacramento.
