I’ve been on the hunt for this mural as part of Sacramento’s Wide Open Walls 916 festival for a while and it has eluded me until now. After driving down a few alleyways I at last found this cheerful little gem. Simple and lovely! What a joy it must be to drive by and see this every day for those who live in the area! Who else is humming to the Beatles?
This mural is at the top of an escalator outside the new Golden One Center. It is vivid and bright and cheerful and I love it. It’s more polished than some and my OCD side super appreciates the perfect lines. It is protected under cover and likely will be with us for some time which is great. Click here and let me know how it stands up to some of the other street art from this summer and previous years of the Wide Open Walls 916 street art festival.
“Snakes! Why’d it have to be snakes?” These massive snakes are down at the bottom of an alleyway. As great as the art is it makes walking down the dark smelly alleyway a little more intimidating than normal. I’ve been meaning to capture this one for a while now but traffic never allowed for it until now. I snapped this and got the heck out of there! Well, I’m not sure I can say it any better. Breath, All we have is now, relax, You are ok.

I stopped by CSU Sacramento for a visit to another Wide Open Walls Street Art piece.
I’ve seen photos of this one all over social media and finally made it for a visit! It’s pretty iconic for the city, the wide open walls project, and the university.
It seems to me that this wide open walls project has really brought a vibrancy to the downtown area that has re-energized some otherwise boring or run down buildings. It has also given artists the opportunity to show off their skills like this bright and cheerful example. I continue to stumble upon these hidden gems and hope to keep bringing you more.
Wide Open Walls hosted multiple events spanning multiple weeks this August in downtown Sacramento painting the city walls with street art! Several areas of downtown have been transformed by local and international artists. Locals watched the art being made, attended a number of hosted street parties, and even download an app for a guided walking tour of the various locations of public art pieces.
I took note of a few of the locations to visit while downtown last weekend and it did not disappoint! I’m proud of my city for allowing something as exciting and forward as this public art exhibit. I am proud Sacramento is finally becoming a world class city by promoting the arts in a modern way. I look forward to next year where they will hopefully do it again in other parts of the city.
Is their interesting street art in your city? What’s your favorite public art piece captured below?
