There were many surprises at the San Diego Zoo. But none as gloriously and feathered as the beautiful birds. Everywhere I went through the park I was surrounded by lovely birds each more interesting that the last. I have attached a few of my favorites either because they were unusual or because they had charachter and paid attention to little ol’ me. My grandmother and I have always taken offense when animal don’t like us or don’t pay attention to us. These feathered friends were very curious and as interested in me as I was in them. If only they carried a camera with them everywhere they went…

I’ve been ruined by good, nay perfect, bread

There is seriously nowhere to get a decent Baguette outside of France. No I am not trying to be a travel/food snob. I’m really not. It’s just the plane truth. The closest thing I have found is Cafe Beaujolais in Mendocino village. The sandwich pictured was actually from a roadside gas station and it was still superior to anything I can find here.

This is the ups and downs of travels friends. I am happy because I have tasted Baguette heaven but then it leaves me always lamenting the lack of anything comparable in our beautiful state. Until I find myself in France again I am happily reminded of its gloriousness by this photo.

Maui is known for a lot of things but I never knew there were donut experts there. As it turns I am not even a big donut fan usually regretting the calories and the heaviness almost immediately. But, out of necessity one morning donuts were all that were available to us. Donuts, glorious donuts. So glorious I felt a need to take a photos of them right on my lap.

I share this with you because it is the most commented on photo that flies by of my screensavers at work. It always makes me laugh that this is one of my most popular photographs. But who can argue with fine baking!? These babies are worth a trip back to Maui just on their own merit. Bon appetite.

If I don’t come home call my mother and tell her I love her

I Uber-ed! What is an Uber? Well the young kid with hip multi colored glasses at my hotel check in desk tells me it’s the easiest and cheapest way to travel these days. I needed to get from the hotel to the park cheaply and quickly. I didn’t have much time and wanted to maximize it. So cute glasses guy gave me a coupon code for a free ride and the deal was sealed. I downloaded the Uber app and saw a car would pick me up in two minutes. It included a photo of my driver, a photo of the car, and an estimate of the fare. (Cheaper than a taxi even if I had to pay.) I was picked up in a clean car by a charming Ethiopian fellow and was offered a bottle of water. At this point I pretended I was a celebrity and enjoyed a peaceful and easy journey to my destination with pleasant conversation. I’ll never travel any other way ever again. Not only was I not killed by a homicidal maniac through an app I actually enjoyed the process and loved giving my money directly to the driver. I would highly recommend Uber to anyone traveling without a car! (Sorry taxi and blue shuttle people!)

I haven’t felt this happy in a very long time

Anyone that knows me knows that two of my favorite things are animals and photography. So, having a surprise afternoon off in beautiful San Diego took me to their lovely zoo for the first time ever. I had a smile plastered on my face the entire time. Everywhere I turned it was one impressive animal after another. Zebras, giraffe, sloth, Galapagos turtle, hippo, so many glorious birds I couldn’t keep count. Any one of these animals would be impressive on their own. But each animal was one-upped by the next even cooler animal. Having something to photograph other than brides for a change was such a treat. Did I mention sloth?
