It’s Halloween…what better way to celebrate than to post about cemeteries!? It’s no ordinary cemetery though. Carowmore Megalithic Cemetery is gorgeous and unusual. It is said that an old Giant flying Irish Hag was collecting boulders to build an enclosure for her animals. She was flying over Carrowmore when she dropped the boulders out of her apron. Those boulders now dot the landscape that is Carrowmore. Dolmens, cairns, stone circle tombs are in every direction in every size about thirty in total. One can drive around the surrounding farmland and find dolmens or mounds in yards belonging to local farmers. In fact, every direction you look a cairn can be seen dotting the Knocknarea and Ballygawley mountaintops as though the megalithic people were type A and felt they needed to overdo it a little! (Respect from one Type A to another friend!) The monuments are some of the oldest in Ireland spanning from around 5-6000 years old!
Happy Halloween friends. Have fun stepping through the cemeteries this All Hallow’s Eve!

Look closely on the top of the mountain and you will see a tiny bump. That bump is one example of a cairn on the mountains that surround the area. How cool is that?

You don’t find many type A in Ireland any more it seems!

Thank you. I was kind of in love with the sweet cow. She was acting like a puppy. I’d like to think it was because she liked me but she probably thought I had food!

Interesting story behind how the stones got there, albeit a bit far fetched. π

I thought you it was a cute story. Who am I to dispute it? π

It would have been more cute if they were the tombs of aliens! π But like you say, who are we to dispute? Happy Halloween to you and the Giant Old Hag!

Thanks! As long as I’m not the Hag! The Irish stories are just so much fun.

Glad. (Wonder how Long live is said in Gaelic?) Eireann go brΓ‘ch. (Looked it up. Such a geek!) means Ireland forever, a parallel to Breizh atao (Brittany always).
Ok. I will stop now. π

Still loving it. You have an interest in languages it sounds like. π

Totally. Though french, I was born in India, raised in Africa. I’ve lived in or stayed at, I don’t know, 20 countries. Speak half a dozen languages I picked up along the way. And languages fascinate me. Just think: words are how we think. So words are tiny windows into your soul my dear. Take care.

Look at you speaking 20 languages and being all deep. But it’s true. A language teacher once told me that you don’t really get another language until you start thinking in it. It’s true I suppose.
What brought you to all of those countries?

My father was an Air France man. So every 3 to 5 years he’d come home to say: “Were going”. “Again?”. “Where?”. π Some times the changes weren’t great like leaving Africa for Holland (Freezing). Others were good: going to Kenya. π π π
Honestly only a few languages I really think in. I just love learning new words. ’nuff said. Tell me: what do you do when not traveling? (And a lovely week-end to you)

Happy weekend to you. Well I suppose I work, for the government. I am an IT project manager. I am also a photographer so I spend time going that. And lately I have been exercising a fair amount. Oh, and of course, I have the bulldog. π

Thank you π IT is a language. Several actually. There’s a lexicon, a grammar, a syntaxis. π Exercise is good. Can’t do much any more. Bad back. Swimming is left. Which is nice. Take the bulldog for a walk. Do they like walking or not much?

She loves walking. It’s like reading the newspaper for her. Just making sure everything is right in the neighborhood. She likes to take day trips with me too as long as it isn’t too hot.

Aren’t dogs fun? We used to have beagle. Crazy. Whacko. But the sweetest thing. The clang of the leash drove her nuts. Meant walking!
