One of my great friends lives in Stuttgart. We met while going to school at Trinity College in Ireland in 1999. I have had the pleasure of visiting her a few times and she has come here to California a number of times. On one of our road trips in Germany she took me through the black forest. She always thought the forest was boring as a child but had grown to appreciate its beauty since. As a mountain lover myself I enjoyed every moment of it. I found it beautiful and interesting and not touristy or heavily trafficy and therefore was an excellent place to visit. (Not to mention Black Forest ham and cake hail from this region of the world so what’s not to like?)
This giant Coo Coo clock resides deep within the black forest. It’s kitschy and random and I love it. Did I bring a clock home? Yes, of course I did as a gift for my mother and she loved it! I didn’t have room in my luggage for anything this big however.

That’s a big cuckoo clock! I wonder if we were in the same place a few years ago. Did you watch them making a Black Forest cake and then buy a piece? We didn’t bring a clock home though. No space in our case. 😅

This is on our list to visit when we get there. I don’t have a sweet tooth so the Black Forest cake doesn’t interest me, though I’d probably try some. But the pretzels? I’m in!

Well this cake is also one of my favourites, but beside the real kitsch you have missed to visit for example HOHENZOLLERN CASTLE going back to the 11th century, completely reconstructed at the end of the 19th century. But you can see it also here:

A lot of Prussian and lateron German kings/emperor (19th and 20th century) deriving from the Hohenzollern noble house which is residing there till today, but you can visit it because they have to make money for the care of the castle.

Wow! I will be in the Black Forest area in May. Must keep an eye out for this, kitsch or not, it looks fab. Heading from Rosslare to Cherbourg with my motorcycle in May.
