Sometimes I wonder how long this street art will last. How long until it’s disturbed or defaced? How long until a building is sold and it’s painted over? I suppose what matters is the here and now and enjoying it while it lasts. Watch it age. Watch it change separate from a museum where art of preserved forever. Here is a collection of people and faces and art that evokes some emotion. Happy Monday everyone.

Wide Open Walls 916 – Circles and Squares
Wide Open Walls 916 festival brings art to the city large and small. These two really spoke to me. Attached to a school I had to try and capture their angles. I remember making shapes like this with string and pens when I was a child. These were probably my favorite for this visit downtown! Enjoy.

Wide Open Walls 916 – Sacramento larger than life
Whenever something brings me downtown it’s always fun to try and find some new murals. After a few years of the festival murals are everywhere ripe for the picking. Murals wrap every side of this building making it far more interesting than it likely was before! Do you have any good street art where you are?

Wide Open Walls 916- a few new walls
Quick errands to downtown Sac allowed me the opportunity to visit a few new murals from the Wide Open Walls 916 festival in town. I love how they bring life to an otherwise boring and dirty and uninteresting wall or alley. The Auto Museum mural was still under construction when I happened by. Enjoy!

Wide Open Walls 916 – California!
Wide Open Walls 916 festival is in full swing over here and I am loving this larger than life mural. A separate artist has filled in each letter making them fun and distinct. And I happened by while artists were working on the C! I have a feeling this wall will be iconic for years to come.

Wide Open Walls 916 @ The Mill
The Wide Open Walls festival is in full swing in Sacramento again for 2019! This one isn’t so much a wall but I love the rainbow colors! This new addition has an interesting take on a “wall.” It’s right smack in the middle of a new housing development who has chosen to retain a few of the old mill related items from before its redevelopment. I love the fresh look and imagine it will be iconic for the area. Cheers!

Wide Open Walls 916
The Wide Open Walls 916 festival is about to kick off again in Sacramento and I’m totally excited! I very much enjoyed visiting the various locations throughout Sacramento since last summer mural viewing and can’t wait to see what the artists come up with for this year’s festival. The art freshens up boring or run down buildings. It gives people an excuse to visit buildings or parts of town perhaps they wouldn’t normally. It freshens up areas of town and brings new energy. Somehow it makes me feel like my humble town has “finally arrived!”
Stay tuned for new murals big and small! Click here for previous posts on lots of exciting local art.

Wide Open Walls 916 -Sacramento State
I stopped by CSU Sacramento for a visit to another Wide Open Walls Street Art piece.
I’ve seen photos of this one all over social media and finally made it for a visit! It’s pretty iconic for the city, the wide open walls project, and the university.
It seems to me that this wide open walls project has really brought a vibrancy to the downtown area that has re-energized some otherwise boring or run down buildings. It has also given artists the opportunity to show off their skills like this bright and cheerful example. I continue to stumble upon these hidden gems and hope to keep bringing you more.
Enjoy!

Wide Open Walls 916 Sacramento-Del Paso
Over the summer a really exciting street art event (Wide Open Walls 916) came to Sacramento which painted the walls…literally. It took a seemingly benign wall or building and turned it in to something amazing. I posted previously on some great selections from the event located in downtown Sacramento. I was so impressed I decided to head to another area of town which was of focus for the event which I had not had time to visit previously – Del Paso. I was most looking forward to seeing the the rainbow colored installation directly below because I was drawn to the bright and cheerful colors. I was underwhelmed to say the least not by the art but by the building and it’s surroundings. This is a classic example of the reality of what surrounds a photo. I’m sure the artist is less than thrilled with what became of his piece. The overall environment left a little to be desired and so did the art but I thought I would share for the fun of it. I still can’t wait for the event to come back again next year…
Anyone else ever visited a location that turned out to be something other than they expected or became run down after the initial blush?

Wide Open Walls 916 – Sacramento Street Art Festival
Wide Open Walls hosted multiple events spanning multiple weeks this August in downtown Sacramento painting the city walls with street art! Several areas of downtown have been transformed by local and international artists. Locals watched the art being made, attended a number of hosted street parties, and even download an app for a guided walking tour of the various locations of public art pieces.
I took note of a few of the locations to visit while downtown last weekend and it did not disappoint! I’m proud of my city for allowing something as exciting and forward as this public art exhibit. I am proud Sacramento is finally becoming a world class city by promoting the arts in a modern way. I look forward to next year where they will hopefully do it again in other parts of the city.
Is their interesting street art in your city? What’s your favorite public art piece captured below?

Seeing a photo of the Princess on Instagram is what led me to Wide Open Walls. I went downtown looking for her and found all of the rest of this interesting and awesome art.

It’s hard to make garbage cans look good but they managed it!

How cool is this? 3D!

This one seemed to get a lot of attention by people walking around.

This is a representation of the famed Sacramento Tower Bridge.

Not sure what this is but I like it. And it was HUGE.

Rainbow version of our beautiful State Flag.

Take note of the ladies posing for selfies. I saw this in front of almost all of the art. People were posing and talking about posting it on social media like it was very serious business.
