Nothing is more iconic to California than the Poppy. This cheerful spring icon is plastered on a local hotel and I love it. Many of the murals which are part of the Wide Open Walls 916 festival are dark, funny, political, unusual, etc. But, sometimes just a cheerful bright and iconic mural is just what the doctor ordered.

Yes, California Poppies always bring reactions of joy and happiness. They grow in my garden every year, just re-seeding themselves.

That’s wonderful. They are all over the place here which is fun. And I’ve photographed them going up and down mountains like a blanket of orange which is amazing! Makes me ready for spring but sadly winter is making its way.

Are poppies common in California? How nice? I love them (coquelicots), they spread everywhere in the wheat fields of Normandy where we spent the summer… (Couldn’t find the emoji)
They’re almost all gone now, because of pesticides…

The California Poppy is our state flower. It is a golden poppy though not the red kind found in Europe (which I find amazingly beautiful in part because we don’t have them here.) Here is what our poppies look like in real life. They are gorgeous and are very prolific so you see them covering a hillside turning it yellow. (They grow like weeds in other words.)

Haven’t seen them in Mexico. Neither central not South. Now the North here is so hot and desertic, I don’t think they have them.
Thouhg looking it up, they say “… to Mexico”. So there must be places here up North.

They do bloom is pretty dry places but not the true desert that I am aware of…but I’m no expert.
